Our Story
Two travelers who found their home — and their calling — on a Greek island.
From Wanderers to Islanders
Renate (Dutch) and Thom (Swedish) spent years traveling the world before settling on Karpathos — a wild, unspoiled island in the Dodecanese. What started as a holiday became a life.
In 2020, they founded Art and Walk Karpathos, combining their love of nature, creativity, and this extraordinary island into something guests could experience firsthand.
Today, their garden studio in the mountain village of Pini Volada is both a creative workshop space and an art gallery — a place where visitors slow down, get their hands dirty, and take home something they made themselves.
Renate leads the creative workshops and hiking tours, drawing on her deep knowledge of local flora, ecology, and traditional crafts. Thom brings the logistics, warmth, and a steady hand behind the scenes.
What We Believe In
Sustainability
We practice Leave No Trace, use eco-friendly materials, and teach respect for the natural world. Reusable bottles, reef-friendly sunscreen, and local sourcing are standard.
Community
We partner with local tavernas, guides, and artisans. We support animal welfare on the island and believe tourism should benefit the whole community.
Authenticity
No mass tourism, no cookie-cutter experiences. Every workshop and walk reflects the real character of Karpathos — its people, traditions, and landscapes.
Creativity for Everyone
You don't need to be an artist. Our workshops are designed so everyone — from age 6 to 96 — can create something beautiful and meaningful.
